Chance to Rise

Chance to Rise is an awards program for women who have demonstrated that they can overcome personal challenges to forge a path for a successful future

WHAT IS CHANCE TO RISE?

CHANCE TO RISE is the awards program that resulted from a generous gift bestowed upon our club, Soroptimist International of Central Solano County, by Sally Silvia and Jim Hudak.  The program’s mission is to identify women in the Fairfield and Suisun communities who have demonstrated courage and strength while overcoming personal challenges and have identified a path to their future achievement and well-being.  It is intended to provide financial support to help these women realize their personal visions through educational/vocational programs that support these visions.  On an annual basis, the program hopes to award up to five women who have found themselves in difficult circumstances, who have addressed their challenges, and found a way to create a plan for themselves that will lead to a productive and successful future.

The CHANCE TO RISE program is distinct from the Live Your Dream Awards program in several ways.  Recipients are not required to be “head of household.”  And, while having a plan to reach future goals is required, being a currently enrolled student/program participant is not required.  The primary criteria for candidates to meet is that they have experienced a significant personal challenge in their lives from which they have developed a personal roadmap to overcome; furthering their vocational/educational goals is an important component of that plan; receiving a substantial financial award would enhance the likelihood of realizing their plan and a they must reside in Fairfield or Suisun.

Throughout the development of the program, we have made contact with several community organizations and leaders for their input about the plan, and have received resounding messages of “go for it” and “I know women just like this!”  The application is now available on our club’s website and we are sending packets to our earlier contacts. We have set April 15 as the application deadline.  If you have questions, or better yet, suggestions of potential resources or applicants, please contact Lynn, Sally or Stephanie!
